REFRESHER COURSE

Any law enforcement officer who has maintained certification in South Dakota but has not worked for a local, state, or tribal law enforcement agency in South Dakota for a period of five consecutive years must upon the acceptance of employment as a law enforcement officer in South Dakota notify the commission of his/her employment and, within one year, complete a refresher course prescribed by the executive secretary or demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the commission, proficiency in South Dakota law enforcement.
