Law Enforcement Training

The Law Enforcement Training Division:

• provides basic training and advanced training to law enforcement officers at the training academy in Pierre and at field sites throughout the state.
• provides 911 telecommunicator training.
• provides SD Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) training.

LET certifies and monitors certification of law enforcement officers, 911 telecommunicators, police reserve units and police reserve officers in SD. Certain types of officer or telecommunicator misconduct may cause certification to be reviewed and suspended or revoked. An officer or telecommunicator who loses certification through revocation or suspension is no longer eligible to work as a law enforcement officer or telecommunicator in SD.
