Crime Victim Services

Victims of crime include not only immediate targets of crimes, but also their families and members of their community.

Secondary victims may include:

• Witnesses to violent crimes;
• Law enforcement officers who respond to crime scenes;
• Professionals who deal with the aftermath of crime;
• Those who serve on juries dealing with intense or disturbing cases.

As law enforcement professionals, the employees of the South Dakota Attorney General's Office care about problems experienced by victims and witnesses of crime.

We know that the days and months following the crime may be difficult for the victim and their family. We hope our Crime Victim Services resources can help. At the same time, we need the victim's and witness' cooperation thoughout the investigation and any other proceedings.
